    The Making of a Beast

The day has finally arrived; the day that I pull the leaf springs and Dana 30ís out of my 94 YJ and replace

them with a hearty Dana 60 and 14 bolt axle. I have wanted to pull the axles out for a while now and

after finding a set of axles for a great price I knew that the time had come.

Starting off we pulled everything off of the YJ that we knew we were going to throw away or send to

scrap. We are pretty much getting rid of everything on this one.

What she looked like when we started:

    Out with the old axles:

Once we picked up the new axles we ordered the ARTEC trusts and REID knuckles since we wanted this Jeep to have an aggressive look as well as be strong enough to handle any situation we put it in.

Ordered the big brake kits from Lugnut 4x4. Since stopping power is a must and we like shiny new parts

We also ordered a new fuel cell from JEGS which we will need in order to push the rear axle back. The stock tank would have had to been moved and floor boards cut in order to make it work. We decided it wasn't worth the trouble. So fuel cell for the win.

More to come we have a lot of parts on order and shipping in within the next few weeks.

We are all looking forward to seeing this beast back on the rocks.

Got a few more parts in over the past few days. Some new Raceline wheels and some Toyo 40 inch tires.

We dropped off the front and rear axles at one of the local differential shops near Dirty's Garage. So they are putting in our 5.38 gears and ARB Lockers.

Now waiting for the axles to come back so we can finish up the welding of the truss.

Let me know when you're done. I'll buy it off you for $10.00 (as long as that includes shipping).

Did a little more work on the build of the axles for the YJ. Dr. Dirty is always putting the time in the shop to get the weld work done up just right.

Received the front and rear diff covers from Blue Torch Fab the other day and for the price they are hard to beat. Ordered the DIY covers for the 60 and 14 bolt. However they ran out of the 14 bolt ones and sent us one that was already welded up.

    Front Diff cover welded up:
    Welding the front diff.jpg

After that was all welded up we got to the truss' and welded them on too.

    Front Axle:
Welding the truss and full hydro.jpg

    Axle 2.jpg

Had to modify the truss on the front axle to allow the air locker line to not be pinched or bent.

    Modify the truss.jpg

And we mocked up the PSC full hydro to make sure our length was good for the arms.

    Mock up of PSC.jpg

Once everything was good to go we finished up the welding and put everything together for a photo before we take it all apart for painting.

    Axle 1.jpg

Should be seeing the MOTOBILT kit coming in sometime next week and then we will start chopping up the YJ to add the front bumber, 4 link skid and the back half kit.

Still waiting on the ORI struts to ship but we may just come up with some other way to mock it up so we can get all the towers welded.

For now its the waiting game....

That's the worst thing about ORI's is the wait had to wait 18 weeks to get mine but besides that looks to be a killer build looking forward to see this thing rolling.
