Thread: LED headlights

    LED headlights

Bouncing back and forth between JW Speaker and Trucklites headlights for the heap. Any pros or cons for either or just don't bother all together?

Cant speak about the new Trucklites but I had the old version and they sucked. I have the JW's now and have Zero complaints

Have heard great things about the JW Speaker lights. I put in some better bulbs and saved $700 for midgets, hookers, and blow. Only problem is you can't see the midgets or hookers from a quarter mile away
Most problems can be resolved with bacon, the rest may require wheeling

Guy I know who owns a truck stop has both and they are blemished so he can't sell them in the store. I told him I would take one or the other but needed to decide which ones. He says 6 in one hand half dozen in the other as far as functionality. He also sells the anti flicker adapter for them as well. I really like how the Speakers look but really like the price he offered to sell the Trucklites for.

I did a non-scientific side-by-side comparison between my H4 replacement headlights and the J.W. Speakers. The JWS were a bit brighter and much more focused pattern. But I didn't feel the difference was worth the price. Between the lamps (Bosch H4 motorcycle lamps), bulbs (Hella 100/80W H4 bulbs) and components to make a full replacement wiring harness, I spent around $150. The difference between stock an my current setup is quite literally like night and day.

The only issues are that I go through a set of bulbs about once a year, and I've cracked two lenses. But considering that bulbs are about $7 each and a pair of headlamps is $55 (delivered prices), I'm still ahead of the game.

Are the blemishes not very noticeable? I've been going back and forth between the jw speakers and hid projectors myself. The old trucklites on a buddy's jeep were bad enough for me to not even look at the newer ones. I know they're supposed to be better now, but those old ones were rough. Looked cool...but functionality? Notta

I didn't notice any blemishes or hotspots with the JWS LED's. They've got a very precision lens system, which obviously contributes to the cost.

Anyone any good at making a headlight harness? I need one for h4 bulbs. Another member was going to make one for me, but has been really busy lately. I have a set of 100/80 w bulbs but need a harness that draws power from the battery and has the resistors to take care of the flicker

Not resistors, capacitors. And diodes for TIPM protection. I've made them before. If you have all the parts I can build it and wrap it for you. The problem is buying the parts. Waytek Wire has most everything except for the H4 sockets (and H13 male socket, if you want to plug-in instead of splice-in to the OEM wiring for trigger signal). But they are not necessarily the most economical choice, and they have a $35 minimum order policy.

    Some things to consider:

    • Single common harness or dual split harness?
    • Cut-and-splice into OEM headlight wiring or use H13 male connectors to plug-in for signal?
    • Where are you going to route the wire?
    • Braided/Expanding Sleeve or Split Loom wire wrap
    • Fuse Holders

I live in a rural community, verrrry dark at night and the stupid deer attack motor vehicles. Driving at night, thru farms and woods with stock headlights really sucked.

Put the JW Speakers in last winter, worth every penny spent. The light quality is amazing, very easy on the eyes, no issues with oncoming traffic, DOT approved, etc, etc, etc.

They did flicker initially till I put in a $50 jumper harness.

    I'd buy the Speakers again.

I'm not sure how many sets, how bad the blemishes are, or how much he is going to charge me. I will see him this weekend and get all the details

Ok so I ended up getting one set of the JW Speakers. He had quite a few but most looked like they were shot by bird shot so I passed. The pair I have have a small scuff on the back.

One cool thing though he had a ton of lightbars and one was like four rows of 5 watt LEDs at 50" long. It threw a ton of light in the shop he said he sells those for like $3000. Too rich for my blood but I did get a few manufacturers names off the boxes and will call them as soon as work leaves me alone long enough to piss.

If anyone is interested in the 2 JW Speaker headlights PM me and we can go from there. As soon as I get a chance I will hook them up to a battery so you can see the light

I ended up with the HIDprojectors and color matched the shroud to my jeeps color code. Love em, wish I'd upgraded sooner.
