Hope you don't mind, I made this a separate thread. It looks like it could be very useful.

Depending on Jeep model there are several people here with real world experience that can help with regear questions. There are also charts floating around the internet that we can link to and/or copy with permission and place here in this thread.

    Auto or manual

I have an auto and went with 5.38's. Sitting on 35's as well. Some might say that is a little high, but I love the combo. It brought my mpg's up a bit, but the major thing is I am not screaming rpm's when trying to maintain 75. It is much easier to tow a heavy m101a3 trailer, and with 4lo, it is like a tractor off road.

I did have issues with driveshaft balancing afterwards since they are spinning faster than before. I had major harmonic vibes at 70, I had my dshaft rebalanced and rebuilt, it is still there but not as bad.
    Hands up, Don't shoot!

I had 37 on my auto with 5:13 and it was ok. I am going 5:38 with the 40s

I use to run 35's with 5.13's with my 6 speed 2dr and loved it. Any bigger tire and I would want 5.38's

Here is the gear chart mentioned above.

    Gear Chart 3.8.jpg

It is useful, but real world knowledge is better. Listen to what these guys have to say (not the voices in your head), they know what it actully feels like out there on the road.

If you considering 5.13's I'd definitely recommend doing 5.38's instead. Do the gears once and don't look back.

Also as French Layer said, I had to replace my drive shafts after the regear. You should probably plan that into your budget when it's time to get them done. Phil at Trail Duty was awesome and I got my Tom Woods shafts quickly.

The chart kaptkrappy posted is for the 3.8L engine, for anyone looking at this thread with the 3.6L Pentastar engine this would be the chart:
