    P0420

This is tech, you freakin pot heads, so get your minds out of the clouds.

In trying to get my silver shitbox smogged, this is the one code I have not been able to make go away. It is a cat code about being below threshold in bank 1. I have replaced both o2 sensors on the precat area, reset it, but the code came back.

btw....my jeep is an 07 with 107,000 miles on it.

    Anyone dealt with this yet?

Not seen it personally but have you checked for the dreaded cracked exhaust manifold. From what I've read (take with a grain of salt) a bad upstream o2 sensor (already replaced so not it) or a cracked manifold or exhaust leak before the cat can send a P0420 because the PCM is reading the first o2 sensor and fighting to make the mixture right.

Is your mileage shittier than usual? When my driver's side maniflod cracked it took a nose dive.

err I mean your exhaust manifold is cracked.

    Re: P0420

If it's not a cracked manifold, the cat itself is bad.

With Hyundais, P0420 means a bad cat 99.9999% of the time.

Pass side isn't cracked as badly as the driver side was, but gonna replace it and see how it goes. Running short on time now.

I chased down the code for a couple years. Replaced exhaust manifolds, O2 sensors, then it finally came down to bad cats. Replaced all 4 (all on the y pipe). That was a lovely 1400 bucks.

    Good luck.
