    Cecil the rescued jackass!

Goin Sunday to pick up a rescue horse.
Black n white paint with ice blue eyes.

Picked up some lumber tonight and started on the staircase.
    Fuckin 2x12s got EXPENSIVE!!
Got one flight almost done - still need to screw in the kick plates and got the landing mostly framed.

I know that this will sound cheesy but this is what I think of when I think about the American dream. Taking a piece of land and the resources of that land (tit structure) and building a home. Kudos.

That's completely awesome. And BIG, damn big. That's going to be a really, really cool place when it's done.

    Thanks y'all!

Progress is kinda slow since we're doing everything ourselves.
    Framing, electrical, plumbing, drywall etc
And in typical venom customs fashion- its kinda getting over built. :)

"well that staircase is plenty strong, but you know adding a couple of extra braces right there and there would make it even stronger! Eh it's just a couple more boards, let's do it."

Headin out to get the new horse in a few.

Post a picture! I love horses. Although, I had a pony as a kid and it was a mean little bastard.

Hey Venom have you thought about starting a compost area? It could only help you in that soil. Hugelkultur would be good too, mostly buried beds. You can use all your lumber end scraps for the bed to break down and hold water.
The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the next best time is now.

Good idea on the compost heap.
We have plenty of room for it, just so dry out here with the drought tho.

    This is Diesel.
He's from the same horse rescue as the donkey.
He's skinny but we can fix that.
He was very skittish with most everyone but came to me and loaded with a minimum of drama.

    Look at the eyes!

Very cool looking horse. I'd ride them but they don't have kill switches.

I could see how a rainwater collection system would be a big plus there also.

That is a cool horse. He would have fit in with the zombie people from the last season of Game of Thrones.

hmmm - tried to post this hours ago and kept getting errors, wonder if it will work now?
    -------------------

so here it is, 0430 AM and I'm sitting here staring blankly at an autocad screen.
I was trying to fine tune the upstairs floor plan, bathroom/closet/door layouts and all of the lines just kinda went jumbly wumbly and I cant focus on them anymore.
trying to lay out rooms in a half circle is a bitch!
But add to it that its a dome, so the outside walls arc in and its extra funky.
Trying to use that as much as possible and put the toilets against the outside walls, so the tank is under the wall arc, stuff like that. Its a shallow arc so its doesnt come in real fast, but its enough that you cant like put a door against it or a shower stall - stuff like that.

    MOTHERFUCKER!!
while I was typing this - autocad crashed and I fucking lost everything!
    where's my .45

    edit:
whew - thank goodness for drawing recovery!

Here's the upstairs floor plan I have so far

Went out there for a few hours after leaving the hospital.
    Diesel was a big help

Got the stairs done and the joists in place for the octagonal landing.

Decided to build in a 4x4x2 viper cage under the stairs.
